Hello! I attended SAHS (Class of 680. I had a memorable teacher and her name was...Mrs. Sturchio! Your name came up while I was looking at the site just now.I also reside in Alexandria, VA and have lived here starting in 1967, graduating from Hammond in 1968, then went to George Mason for a couple of years, then the whole family moved to Germany for my dads final year of army service. When he retired in Honolulu Iwent to and graduated from University of Hawaii in 72. Shortly after, we packed up and moved to the DC area. What I remember about your mom was gaga for Joan Baez and would talk about her during (math?) class. She was scoping out the class to see if one of the kids had a guitar and could play like Joan, she said bring your guitar to class and we will have a good listen. And one time I was in the officers club for dinner with my mother and saw Mrs. Sturchio wautubg ti be seated and we chatted briefly. She was all set for some oysters. I have always wondered if she actually had oysters that night! That officers club made the most awesome Southern fried chicken.

Happy Birthday Elaine! What's happening? What a day for a birthday -- I hope you and your family can get together in some way and celebrate. And stay safe!

Hey Rene! I'm late as usual. I hope you're doing OK with the world going so crazy. It's never dull lately!! I still marvel that you and Elaine remembered me and that I arrived late in the year to SAHS. Do you remember which class we were in together? I remember sitting somewhere behind you and Elaine (you always sat together). I seem to remember the teacher diagraming sentences, so I'm thinking English. But then I thought I remembered Mel Whatley being in that class with us, and he was a year ahead of us, so I'm probably mis-remembering. I do have some nice memories -- I don't think I was ever happier than when we we stationed somewhere overseas. I just loved all the traveling and moving all the time.
I'm a skosh late but Happy Birthday Elaine! I hope you guys are doing well with all this craziness going on. Life is never dull...

I have that yearbook--you're in it, but it's the "1966" yearbook we were sophomores. I lived there '62 and '63 and again for part of my sophomore year in '65-'66. We probably had some classes together, the school was so small. I remember several people fairly clearly, which is amazing, but I can't place you. One thing you said though, is really funny. My mother and brother were very blond and when we arrived by ship in Korea, a crowd gathered around us--in those days westerners must have been a little out of the ordinary. People would rush up to us out of the crowd, touch my brother, and then turn and run. Craziest of all, they kept saying "Kennedy? Kennedy?" We couldn't figure out if they thought we were part of the first family, or just what that was all about. My mother was a platinum blond and looked nothing like Jackie Kennedy. But I remember always feeling like we were being stared at whenever we were off base. Not so much in Itaewon where we lived. But downtown I felt like I had two heads the way people stared. I enjoyed everywhere we lived overseas (and we were overseas a lot) I wouldn't say it was the best year of my life, but I actually liked it there. I remember several of the school kids said they couldn't wait to leave. But that was probably just adolescent bravado! I liked Korea. P.S. Did you ever get to see the yearbook? I would almost give you mine, but I've always been kind of sentimental. I hang on to stuff like that. If you really want to find one, you might set up your account on eBay to notify you whenever a "Chosun" yearbook goes up for sale. Over the last 10 years I've seen a number of yearbooks and actually bought one I was looking for. eBay is great for all kinds of things.
