Alan B. Carroll FBI agent

Alan B. Carroll, 58, a retired FBI agent who in his 25-year career specialized in investigating kidnapping and extortion and then in probing white-collar crime and national security concerns, died Jan. 15 at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney. He had an abdominal aortic aneurysm.

After retiring from the FBI in 2007, Mr. Carroll became a senior principal analyst for the defense contractor CACI International, a job he held until his death.

Alan Bruce Carroll, known as "ABC," was born in Albuquerque. The son of a career Navy officer, he grew up moving frequently and enlisted in the Marine Corps at 19. After his discharge in 1973, he worked for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and earned a bachelor's degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1980.

Mr. Carroll, a resident of Brinklow, enjoyed playing the piano and golf. His memberships included the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, the American Legion and the Masons.

His marriage to Janet M. Carroll ended in divorce.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Michele Hall "Miki" Carroll of Brinklow; a son from his first marriage, Adam B. Carroll of Milton, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Dawn Vileno of Brookeville and Danielle Vileno of Annapolis; his mother, Charlotte Carroll of Orlando; two brothers; and a granddaughter.
