Left SAHS after my soph year. Graduated in 68 from Ft Hamilton HS in Brooklyn, NY. It was so different than SAHS. About 3000 kids and no one called me Spider ever again until I joined the Brats page.
Went to Virginia Tech and graduated in72. Those were tense years with the war in Vietnam. I gravitated towards the hippie side of the culture war and took on all the accouterments of that lifestyle.
After graduation I taught school in St Thomas VI for a year and then came back to the states and bummed around for a year or two. Way too much fun
Finally got a job at a small government consulting firm in Northern VA. Met my wife to be, Christine, another VA Tech grad. We bought a 200 year old falling down farmhouse in rural Fauquier County, VA in 1979 and we're married in 1980 in the front parlor of the house in 1980.
Our first daughter, Rachel was born in 1981 and Kate joined us in 1985. They are great young women and I'm very happy I did not screw the dad thing up.
Our family lived in the old farmhouse for 17 years. We renovated it room by room and heated with two wood stoves till we finally put in central heat. That was a glorious day. We ended up buying some adjacent property with some elevation and build a modern house with a view. We still own the farmhouse, renting it out and waiting to see if one or both of the girls will ever come back to the farm.
Christine's and my careers have been tangled up since 1976 when we both started working for the same consulting company. We have worked together on and off ever since. The small firm we worked for got bought by a larger firm and this was repeated several times. We now work for a giant company Northrop Grumman.
I'm in business development as a subject matter expert on IT for state human services programs (welfare, food stamps and child support).
I travel about a third of the time for work in the US. Overseas travel has been a big part of our family's vacations over the years. We have been to every continent but Antarctica.
When youngest daughter Kate graduated from college she took a job teaching ESL in KOREA for a year. Talk about deja vu all over again!
She is back in the US now with her own memories of Korea.
That's all for now.
Wishing all my SAHS alums from the 60's the very best.
