I attended SAHS Soph and Jr. years ('78 and '79.) My senior year was in Carmel, Indiana (Dad stationed at Ft. Ben Harrison, post long since closed)- then off to Univ. of Iowa- Go Hawkeyes!!! I graduated with a BS in nursing from the Univ. in May, 1985- married June, 1985 to Doug Milder. His master's was from the Univ. of Iowa in Recreation Services. We met on the B-Ball court in intramurral co-ed basketball (he “had a great jump shot!") We stayed in Iowa City for 3 years, then moved to Va. Tech Univ. (Blacksburg, Va.) for Doug's work- Assocate Directer Recreation Services. We stayed there for 6 years; we then moved across the country to Idaho State University (Pocatello, Id.), again for Doug's work (Directer Recreation Services.) I worked in the neurosurgical/neurotrauma division at Iowa, then moved into critical care (Surgical, Medical, and Cardiac) at both private and VA hospitals in Va. I loved caring for our veterans, as could share and relate to many stories RE: Army life. I earned a MSN as a Family Nurse Practitioner at ISU in May, 1997, working for 8 years in private practice (Internal Medicine/Oncology/Hematology.) I moved to the hospital in 2004 to specialize in Hem/Onc. I retired in 2016.
Elder daughter, Meagan Joelle, was born in 1988 in Iowa City. She earned a BA in Mass Comm/Advertising in 2012, and is now the Marketing/Graphic Designer at the corporate headquarters of Idaho Central Credit Union in Chubbuck, Id. Younger daughter, Anna Christine, was born in Roanoke, Va. in 1990. She earned a BA in PR/Marketing from ISU in 2016, and then her K-8 certification in elementary ed. She teaches here in Pocatello.
My parents retired in Belton, a small town outside Ft. Hood, Tx. Mom passed from ALS in Nov. 2016; Dad from dementia and stroke in 2020. Brian lives in Annandale, Va., and is a retired Col. in the Army (attended West Point.) He is married with two boys. Brother Kevin is a retired Col. (attended Norte Dame on an Army ROTC scholarship)- and an academic attending Physician and Head of OB GYN in Honolulu, HI. Single- active marathoner/swims in the ocean daily (I'm jealous!!)- We all travel lots and, although spread out, try to see each other two-three times/year.
Northwest USA is beautiful! Love the mountains and open vistas...
2-4-23:
I was able to connect with see Lisa Cloud, my dear friend in Korea, several times as my parents retired in Texas, and she lives just north of Austin. I miss her...
Our eldest married in October 2019, and continues as the graphic designer at ICCU. She and Gary had our first grandchild, Athena May, in Dec. 2022- what a joy she is! Our youngest has a nice fellow too.
Sadly, my husband, Doug, was diagnosed with a horrifically aggressive lymphoma in July, 2021. Although he went through extensive therapy, he ultimately passed away on hospice November 2022. My experience as an Oncology Nurse practitioner was, of course, very helpful -but at times I simply just wanted to be his wife. I continue to adjust, realizing that grief is not linear. There are good days and bad, good moments and sad -but time marches on, and we adjust…
My brothers, their spouses, and I will be in Minnesota over New Year’s- watching lots and lots and lots of college football telling tall tales and toasting to the new year with hopes and plans for new adventures!
Many blessings to all my SAHS family in 2025-
Fondly,
Carol
