Ray Grieshaber

Dale, Mr G (Ray Grieshaber) here.  I remember you as I was Dorm Super for one yr from '63-64.  It has been interesting to read the comments from the '61 group.  Gee, that was a long time ago.  I became the Business Tchr the next yr and stayed until I retired in '94.  Surely a lot of changes at SAHS and in Seoul/Korea which made the stay even more interesting.  Joe Crosswell, Jim Smith, and Richard Dickie were there when I arrived but I don't remember when SAHS actually started??  I still have contact with Richard Dickie and see him yearly.  Have not been to HI for a few yrs so have not seen the O'Briens recently.  That year in the Dorm was a totally new experience for me!!! and I blame those free weekends for killing a lot of my brain cells! :)  Anyway, gotta run.  Just wanted to make a comment while I was on here.  Happy Ground Hog Day!  ray

Mr. Grieshaber! It has been a long time. As I remember, you were given the senior boys in a separate dorm. We loved it having our own place, and we loved your light hand. -- Jim Faulconer

Joe....You are right about the SAHS start date.  I believe prior to that, SAHS students attended Seoul Foreigh School....?  Speaking of that first class....   Lii Montgomery (Decon's - '61 older brother) was in that Class of '60.  In 1965 I transferred to Eastern New Mexico University and ran into Lii who was there as well.  He and I rented a small house off campus that year and shared many SAHS stories.  Lii graduated and moved to Clovis, NM and is still there today.

Wow, So crazy to read all these! I remember Mr. Greishaber, Mr. Dickie and Mr. Obrien. Really shakes some of the cobwebs out. I moved to Seoul in 65 and lived on the economy. Went to the elementary school 1 year, then the Jr. High 2 years and the High for 9th Grade only. I graduated from Frankfurt High in 1972.

Warner Connick was one of my counsellors and became a family friend. I toured Russia in 1970 with him and three other students from SAHS; Jon Black, and two others whose names escape me.

Sue, you say Wayne and I "tied or chained me to a tree outside of teen club or officers club...?" I have no memory of this at all! The ohnly thing I can think of is one summer day in '61, Wayne and I wanted to see how long we could stay up with sleeeping or napping. So one night we found ourselves horribly sleep-deprived after 36 (48? this may be exaggerated over time...) hours of being up. I am not responsible for something I may have done while sleep walking! I am glad you are not angry over this, so I assume it was all in good fun. I just remembered the calling cards W and I had back then (remember, we were young & stupid & apolitical)

Above the calling cards, the pic on the left is Janet Peart and Sherry Pressy (who has been on this discussion board). The other pic is Wayne seeing Don Ranard and me off at Kimpo, when Don & I left Korea for good.

Here is a posed yearbook pic of me in someone's glassses, W-in-drag, and Don Herring. There was one like this in the previous yearboook, but Lee Danisch was in Don's place on the right.

I think Don Herring has been on this board.

Dave Baldwin & his wife visited me in Maine last week, and we played bluegrass music on banjo, fiddle, mandolin. And recounted the good old days in Korea.

Speaking of which, I just listtened to a very satisfying audiobook (from the library, on my Andoid phone...) about Noth Koresa, called The Great Leader and the Fighter Pilot by Blaine Hardin. Half the true story is about the Korean War, from the other side's viewpoint, and half is about the 1st N Korean pilot of a MIG to defect to the South...by flying to Kimpo air base. (Dont remember if I have already posted this pic of me arriving at Kimpo at age 15)

to Joe Holcombe:

you wrote on my SAHS profile page:

<<Hey Ted, We're trying to put together a band for the Reunion this October. Would you like to take the lead on that? I don't know anything about music. The Barefoots were our band in mid-60's.>>

...I tried to respond to your profile page, Joe, but I dont think it worked. This SAHS Message Forum is the only way I know for communicarting since our Facebook page seems to have been retired. So....when you refer to the Reunion this October--where and when?

Thanks Sue. Good to have a record of Paul's life and sacrifice. He had a brother named Bob, I believe (one of our classmates has no recollection of this). If I am right, I wonder what became of Bob. (Not to be confused with Gunther Smith....I think they looked alike)

There have been several comments recently about finding classmates on The Wall.

This may help.

Sorry to hear of Don Richardson being on the wall.  Where is his brother, John Richardson?  I remember them both, it seems their family and ours arrived i. S. Korea about the same time, 1960, and our parents hit it off.  Tho my folks were in teague and the Richardson's were in Seoul.  The Richardsons invited my brother and i to dinner at their home often while we were in the dorm during the week.  Very nice folks.

Don, actually Willard D. Richardson, was a Medical pilot, shot down in 1969 I believe.. terribly sad. As mentioned, my sister Lyn & I spent many a year leaving flowers & a card each October. His brother's name was Doug, I believe...no idea where he is now.
